The 2018 California summer music festival season just ended so it must be time for the 2019 California summer music festival season to start. How far are you willing to go for a music festival? Zero miles? We can’t help you. But if you’re willing to go at least a few blocks there’s probably a music fest happening nearby. If you’re willing to travel all the way to the desert there’s definitely something for you. Once again, we’re starting to pull together a guide to 2019’s California music festivals starting in San Francisco heading to Los Angeles and beyond. This list is clustered by the distance starting from San Francisco (sorry, we’re SF-centric) and heading down the coast (admittedly, this format is a little confusing so we’ll probably arrange it by festival date at some point in the future). It’ll be updated as new music festivals and performers are announced. If it’s still in 2018 and you’re reading it, breathe deep, friend, we have some work to do.

Tickets go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m. If we were to put money on which day would sell out first we’d put it all on Sunday. Only three acts stand between Janet Jackson and Janelle Monáe possibly stepping out onto the same stage together. Crazier things have happened at Outside Lands, so we will keep our fingers tightly crossed for an epic duet.
Seeing Huey Lewis and the News would certainly have been one of the high points of attending Outside Lands this year. The band, steeped in decades of perfect pop hits, always create a rambunctious, must sing-along party atmosphere whenever they perform. Unfortunately, the 67-year-old rock frontman of the band has canceled the tour due to hearing loss. Continue reading
